NMSP leader, Mon chief minister hold meeting on peace pact

Mon State Chief Minister Aye Zan and New Mon State Party (NMSP) Naing Han Thar held a closed door meeting in the Kyaik Ka Mau monastery compound in Yae Township, the NMSP leader said.

Naing Han Thar, the vice president of NMSP confirmed the meeting held on November 28 and there was discussion about the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), but did not disclose further details.

“The meeting lasted for about one hour and it was about peace process and NCA, but I can’t reveal the details of the meeting yet,” said Naing Han Thar, the vice president of New Mon State Party.

Aside from the chief minister and the NMSP vice president, others who attended the meeting were NMSP assistant secretary Naing Zaya, committee members Naing Banya Lal and Naing Shwe Thein, party secretary of Dawei township,Naing Nyan Htun, Myanmar Ethnic Ministry of Mon State U Shwe Myint and Dr Min Soe Linn, PM of Mon State Hluttaw.Sayadaw Badana Poppa Yarma said the meeting brought the NMSP very close to signing the NCA.

The party held an urgent internal meeting from November 21 to 27, to discuss the signing of the NCA and participating in the ongoing peace process, said Naing Aung Ma Ngay.

‘’We can’t announce the result of internal meeting as we need more time to discuss it, ‘’ he said.

In February 2012, NMSP signed another ceasefire agreement with the government of former President U Thein Sein’s government in February 2012.
