Ayeyawady Region development project to be launched this year

PHASE 1 of the Ayeyawady Region development project will be implemented by the end of this year, according to a report in Myawady Daily on Tuesday.
U Ye Linn, executive committee member of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Federation, said the project would be implemented in a region that is a two-hour drive from commercial hub Yangon.
In the initial stage, a new highway plan will be executed in the project area later this year, and phase 1 is expected to be finalized before 2020.
The development projects will include a smart city, an international airport, economic zones, housing complexes and industrial facilities. Negotiations are on with local and foreign companies before implementing the project.
For the time being, the feasibility study of the highway project is being conducted by a South Korean company, and it is some 70 per cent complete.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be more than US$200 billion.
