UNHCR Ethiopia | Operational Update - February 2024

Type de document: Situation Reports / Updates
Langue(s): English
Despite being underfunded, UNHCR has been working to support close to 1 million refugees and 3.5 million internally displaced persons in Ethiopia. Along with the Government's Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) and our partners, we responded to two main emergencies : close to 50,000 people fleeing conflict in from Sudan and 52,000 refugees fleeing violence in Somalia. This year, the shortage of funding will worsen refugees' lives. Lack of funds in key sectors including food, shelter, WASH, education, health, energy will expose refugees to various risks including Gender Based Violence, malnutrition and stunting, disease outbreaks. Additionally, the lack of clean water, sanitation, healthcare and education is leading to negative coping mechanisms (transactional sex, child labor, child marriage and begging) and ultimately dire living conditions.
