Afghanistan Priority Areas of Return and Reintegration (PARR) Factsheet for Surkhrod, Nangarhar, Eastern Region 2024: Surkhrod is a district in the Southwest part of Nangarhar Province. The district has over 40 villages, the most populated villages are Fatehabad, Sultanpur, Shamshapur, Charbagh, Siasang, Shiekh Mesri and Bakhtaan. The total estimated population is 275,300 individuals. Sukhrod has been considered to be one of the top high return districts across the country. Since October 2023, 10,094 undocumented returnees and 3,214 documented returnees returned to the district. It is also important to highlight that right from 2005, Shiekh Mesri and Siasang are Land Allocation Scheme (LAS) allocated for landless returnees and thereafter is being called as a returnee township. The settlement was established on a barren terrain that remained isolated until early 2008. When first established in 2005, a sizeable portion of the area was littered with land mines and UXOs.
