In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the National Commission for Refugees (CNR) is responsible for determining refugee status in accordance with Law 021/2002. While awaiting the establishment of the Appeals Commission, the CNR continues its activities through monthly eligibility sessions. These efforts aim to achieve the long-term goal of “zero asylum seekers” in the DRC. However, this remains a challenge due to the fluctuating number of asylum seekers, influenced by developments in neighboring countries and the internal requirements for registering and physically verifying refugees and asylum seekers.
