Arbat refugee camp was established in June 2014 to accommodate Syrian refugees. Located 32 km southeast of Sulaymaniyah City, it lies within the administrative boundaries of Arbat Sub-district, just 5 km from the center of Arbat town. Thanks to the high levels of cooperation and service provision by the local municipality, including water, electricity, and garbage collection, Arbat refugee camp is part of a UNHCR pilot project aimed at transforming some refugee camps into neighborhoods served by local municipalities, rather than relying on parallel humanitarian services.
