Akre refugee camp, originally a government facility built in 1972, was repurposed by UNHCR in 2013 to host Syrian refugees. The camp, located in the centre of Akre City, consists of 390 shelter units within a concrete building. UNHCR supports the Ministry of Interior’s Directorate of Migration and Crisis Response (MoI/DMCR) which has sub-contracted the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), to manage and coordinate services for the camp.
