The report provides analysis of the ongoing conflict-driven displacement from Sudan into South Sudan and its implications for food security. Since April 2023, over 1.2 million people have crossed into South Sudan - many of them South Sudanese returnees fleeing violence with little to no resources. The study highlights how this influx is straining already fragile areas, particularly Upper Nile State, where Luakpiny/Nasir and Ulang Counties already face a risk of Famine. By July 2025, nearly 50 percent of people in IPC Phase 5 (Catastrophe) in South Sudan are returnees, underscoring their unique vulnerabilities. Drawing on data from IOM DTM, UNHCR, IPC, and ACLED, the analysis maps the intersection of displacement, conflict, and food insecurity, and offers critical insights for humanitarian response and advocacy - especially in the context of growing needs and constrained resources.
