As of the end of June 2026, Chad is hosting approximately 2.26 million forcibly displaced people. This population includes around 1.55 million refugees and asylum seekers, nearly 219,600 internally displaced persons in the Lake region, as well as about 494,643 returned migrants at risk of statelessness, mainly from Nigeria, the Central African Republic, and Sudan. Since April 2023, the crisis in Sudan has continued to have a major impact on the protection situation in Chad, with more than 934,202 new Sudanese arrivals registered across the country. At the same time, around 18,900 Cameroonian refugees are benefiting from voluntary return assistance.
