Route-Based Approach: South and South-East Asia (SSEA) route

Type de document: Data & Statistics , Rapports
Langue(s): English
The South and South-East Asia (SSEA) Route comprises several overlapping forced displacement and migration corridors rather than a single homogeneous movement. Forced displacement from Myanmar constitutes the principal international-protection dimension of the route. Conflict, persecution, statelessness and serious human rights violations continue to drive movements towards Bangladesh, India and Thailand and, in the case of Rohingya refugees, onward maritime and land movements towards Malaysia and Indonesia. These movements are predominantly protection-driven, including when refugees subsequently move onwards in search of effective protection, safety, family unity, livelihoods or solutions.
