Oxfam argues that the coronavirus pandemic has been made deadlier, more prolonged and more damaging to livelihoods because of inequality. Oxfam denounces a “vaccine apartheid” that results in deaths and is supercharging inequalities worldwide. The report suggests that these present-day divides are being driven by both the rise in inequalities between countries (as rich nations are able to vaccinate and return to a level of normality) and rises in inequality within countries (as the richest people have been able to better weather the economic maelstrom created by COVID-19).
