Mr. Julian Fantino, Minister of International Cooperation of Canada visited Mentao Refugee camp in the Soum on 11 September 2012 with UNHCR, who organized the visit together with the Embassy of Canada in Ouagadougou. During his visit, the Minister met and interacted with refugee leaders, a group of women refugees, visited a school of refugee kids, as well as two refugee households. At the end of his visit to Mentao camp, the Minister acknowledged that: “this was a very complex humanitarian emergency.” The visit also counted with the presence of UNHCR Regional Representative, Mr. Valentin Tapsoba and the UNHCR Country Representative, Mr. Ibrahima Coly. The Canadian Government recently contributed $ 1.5 Million to the Mali Situation.
