The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday appealed to stakeholders to support the rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yobe with education, safe living condition and economic rehabilitation.
Mr Gabriel Idoko, Head UNHCR in the state, made the appeal at the commemoration of the 2017 World Refugee Day in Damaturu.
He said: “The displaced persons deserve to continue with their education and provided with safe living conditions.”
Idoko said the society needed to provide the displaced persons with opportunities to rebuild their lives, reintegrate and facilitate their economic rehabilitation to enable them return to normalcy.
Alhaji Idi Jidawa, Permanent Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said life was returning to normalcy in the displaced communities.
He called for collective resolution and cooperation of every member of the society to rebuild the lives of the displaced persons.
“Everyone has a responsibility to contribute to the reconstruction process to bring their life to normalcy,” he said.
