A free all-round vocational training school will be opened in Mon State's Mawlamyine capital for the blind and visually impaired people living in the state, according to Shwe Myittar Parahita Association’s vice-chair Daw Tin Tin Aye.

She told Hinthar Media that the association asked Ashin Marnitasara from Sasana Zawtika Monastery in Mupon Ward to donate the land for the training school.

“By teaching the skills they are interested, the blind people, who feel inferior, will be able to live together in the society and live their lives in happiness,” said Daw Tin Tin Aye, adding that the training school will be built as a long-term project for the blind.

According to her, the vocational training school will provide lessons on Braille, Myanmar traditional and modern music, hand massage (Myanmar-Japan), classes from kindergarten to 10th standard, moral-uplifting, astrology, handicraft, computer, and spoken English.

Besides the children from the Mon State, blind and visually impaired children from the Kayin (Karen) State and the Tanintharyi Region can also attend the training school.

An official from the training school said there are nearly 400 visually impaired (blind) people in the area, according to a survey conducted in 2016.
