Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein attended the stake driving ceremony for the construction of shelter for former political prisoners on November 25th.
It is situated at the Ohn Hne Bin village in Taikkyi Township.
Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein in his opening speech said, “ The idea of building a shelter for former political prisoners is an excellent one. This place may become home to those that had given their lives for politics and have no house to live. At present, efforts at reforms face challenges and need continuous work put into them.
Camaraderie and trust between friends are needed. We are still marching towards our goal and the goal is still far from sight. One day, when we reach our goal, we will be the ones gathering at this shelter for former political prisoners and reminisce through conservations of our experiences.”
The shelter for prisoners that have largely been arrested and imprisoned through political motivations will also seek to provide them with jobs.
Present on the occasion were Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein, Chairman of Yangon Region parliament Tin Maung Tun, Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Magway Region Chief Minister Dr. Aung Moe Nyo and former political prisoners.
