More than 168000 Elderly Aged 85 and above Entitled to Social Pension

The government will give the monthly social pension of Ks 10,000 to the elderly aged 85 and above every three months beginning 2019-2020 fiscal year, according to Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement.
In 2018-2019 FY, the government paid the social pension only to senior citizens aged 90 and above.
Dr. Shein Myint, assistant director of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement said: “The government will pay monthly social pension of Ks 10,000 every three months. It has reduced the age limit entitled to the social pension. The amount remains unchanged.”
A total of 168,578 people aged 85 and above will be entitled to the social pension for six months.
In 2018-2019 FY, there were 43,439 people aged 90 and above nationwide. The government spent Ks72.244 billion on the social pension for the people aged 90 and above in 2017-2018 FY and six months of 2018-2019 FY and Ks5.057 billion for the people aged 85 and above in 2018-2019 FY.
In 2017-2018 FY, the government introduced the social pension scheme for the elderly. The ministry paid the social pension to some elderly door to door.
