Corruption Prevention Units to be formed at Ministries

Anti-Corruption Commission and the United Nations Development Programme-UNDP jointly conducted a workshop yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw in preparation for forming of Corruption Prevention Unit-CPU at 13 ministries.

The workshop was opened with opening remarks by U Aung Kyi, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, at Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

The opening ceremony was attended by members of the commission, permanent secretaries, and directors-general of the 13 ministries and staff of the office of the commission.

At the workshop, Secretary of the commission U San Win discussed the formation of CPUs from the legal point of view, U Zaw Win, member of the commission discussed the duties of the CPUs, Daw Myat Myat Soe, member of the commission, presented the analytical review on possible danger of corruption and Mr. Philliat Matsheza of UNDP discussed the prevention of corruption.

Following the discussion, those attendees at the workshop raised questions, and the chairman, the secretary and members of the commission replied the queries.

The workshop decided three duties of the CPU: to scrutinize and explore corruptions, to solve the corruption problems, and to prevent the corruption by the civil servants.

The commission will give training to four to 10 staff from each ministry in the first week of February to work for the CPU. The workshop ended with concluding remarks by the chairman of the commission.
