In Adjumani, 98% of yesterday’s 293 new arrivals were women and children under the age of 18.

It is anticipated that once border with South Sudan becomes fully passable, a mass influx of 10,000+ refugees could take place within a few days.

More than 18,000 South Sudanese refugees have fled to Uganda since fighting began in Juba on 7th July.

New arrivals in Uganda report that armed militias are burning down homes, murdering civilians and forcibly recruiting young men and boys in to their ranks.

An EXCOM donor mission from Geneva visited Uganda (Adjumani) to gain a deeper understanding of UNHCR and partners responses to refugee influxes.

The majority of the recent arrivals in Uganda are coming from the Equatoria states and Jonglei State. Most are being settled in Adjumani district.

A total of 1,282 refugees arrived from South Sudan from Elegu and Kuluba collection points, between 27 Nov -08 Dec 2015.
