The initiative has been spearheaded by the American University of Kurdistan (AUK), Atmosfair and UNHCR in 2020-21.The purpose of the study was not for UNHCR to fund the implementation of the entire solarization but rather aimed at setting the foundation to attract the required support from donors (non-UNHCR resources, incl. private sector).
