Since March, the Ethiopian government, in collaboration with UNHCR, has been issuing digital ID cards to refugees, a crucial step toward their protection and integration into national systems. Following a three-months pilot in Addis Ababa, the programme was expanded to Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Somali regions, issuing over 9,600 ID cards. Participation is voluntary, with 25,394 refugees consenting so far, and 9,669 already receiving their IDs, each featuring a unique "Fayda" number to prevent duplication.
