Working Group Description

A considerable number of children have experienced direct and indirect forms of violence in Syria or other refugee countries. The main Child Protection risks for children in Jordan include child marriage, child labor, children experiencing violence, abuse or neglect, including sexual and gender based violence, family separation; children with disabilities at heightened risk of abuse and neglect, children in conflict with the law, and children who have been exposed to trauma and psychosocial distress. The Child Protection Sub-Working Group (CP SWG) was established in 2012 to coordinate emergency response activities by humanitarian workers designed to prevent, identify and respond to child protection risks for refugee girls and boys in Jordan. The CP SWG is a sub working group to the Protection Working Group with direct reporting requirements. Almost ten years into the crisis, the CP SWG aims at being a platform to support the national Child Protection system and to ensure responses to the refugee crisis are in line with the national strategic frameworks and objectives, as well as coordinating, strengthening and harmonizing both emergency and national child protection (CP) interventions for boys and girls at risk along with their families affected by displacement. The CP SWG aims also at providing a platform to share good practices on Child Protection and to ensure prevention and response activities undertaken by Child Protection agencies and practitioners are in line with global standards.
