* The number of Stateless in the Asia & Pacific Region comprises of both displaced and non-displaced Stateless. Some displaced Stateless are simultaneously counted as IDPs, Refugees or Asylum-seekers or Others of concern.

As the numbers of refugees and forcibly displaced people continue to grow in Asia and around the world, UNHCR remains committed to supporting them in exile, as well as in finding solutions to their plight. Embracing the spirit of the Global Compact on Refugees, this requires a whole of society approach to partnerships, including working with refugees themselves, Governments, humanitarian partners, development banks, and civil society. Now is the time to strengthen the base of support for displaced and stateless in the region and express our solidarity in ways that impact their lives directly!” UNHCR Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Ms. Hai Kyung Jun

Being counted is the first step to being included

When forcibly displaced and stateless people are visible in national statistics, their needs, skills and contributions can inform policies, budgets and public services - helping build pathways to inclusion, durable solutions and self-reliance. Across Asia and the Pacific, progress on statistical inclusion is gaining ground, but gaps remain. Discover how inclusive data can support lasting solutions.

Collection, analysis and dissemination of socioeconomic data and evidence is key to policy and programmes that support solutions for refugees, asylum seekers, stateless people and other that UNHCR serves. The production of high-quality socioeconomic data and evidence of forcibly displaced people and their hosts feeds into national and regional decision-making processes and supports evidence-informed humanitarian and development operations. Pakistan: UNHCR Forced Displacement Survey

There are 122.6 Million forcibly displaced people worldwide at mid-2024 as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or events seriously disturbing public order.

Data - articularly microdata, such as household surveys - can help by painting a picture of the life of everyone in detail, but also about the challenges they face: food security, shelter, access to water, health care, education, and livelihoods.

The World Bank-UNHCR Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement has undertaken a review of all publicly available household survey datasets from the two largest databases of microdata (the World Bank and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees microdata libraries) since 1995.

The result is Forced Displacement Microdata, a dashboard where users can view the data overall, as well as access individual datasets.
